Most double (full) sized beds, along with all queen and king size beds require some type of center support rail, typically with extra feet extending down to the floor.

Platform bed frames come in many varieties, sizes and styles. But they can be divided into two basic materials: metal and wood. Metal platform bed frames are made of tubular and sheet steel. They are easy to maintain as they do not need repainting or re-staining and are very hardy. Wood bed frames give a warm, earthy feel that no metal can. A wood platform bed frame can be made of cherry, maple, mahogany, oak, teak, rosewood, dark walnut, pecan and more. Wood platform bed frame could also be "natural," "cappuccino," "black," and others. This just means they are made of strong particleboard or wood and have been painted to look different. There's no better way to double the sleeping space of a bed or daybed than with a trundle unit. There are two main types of trundle units: pull-out trundles and pop-up trundles. A pull-out trundle accommodates a mattress and rolls out from underneath the daybed but does not elevate.
A pop-up trundle is a metal mattress frame that can be rolled out and elevated to the height of the daybed. In general, if the same kind of mattress is used on both the pop-up trundle unit and the daybed itself, the daybed converts to a king-size bed. When the trundle unit is no longer needed, it can be compressed and stored underneath the daybed. This feature makes daybeds that can accommodate a pop-up trundle unit ideal for guest rooms: when guests visit you can provide them with a king-sized bed; when they leave, the daybed transforms to a space-efficient sofa.
